Trading House Café

ABOUT THE CAFÉ

Once you walk through the Trading House Café door, you will be transported into a European Countryside Café surrounded by an atmosphere that is comfortingly French & Hygge inspired. Trading House Café offers a fresh & seasonal menu with a twist from your grandma’s kitchen. Many of our dishes are inspired by a long line of our own family’s heirloom recipes passed down through the generations.

The café features top-notch ingredients, artisanal-inspired items and seasonal specials. We make everything from scratch just like grandma did – baked goods, sweet breads, desserts, and dressings. For breakfast start the day from our coffee bar menu featuring America’s favorite coffee Black Rifle Coffee Company.  Since you are here, take a bag of coffee beans home for tomorrow. Indulge in our very own Candied Maple Bacon and take it to the next level with our house-made, from-scratch, Maple Bacon Cinnamon Roll or Gigi’s Biscuits & Gravy. For something a little lighter try the Avocado Toast or a seasonal Belgian Board. For lunch sit down and enjoy a Turkey Delight on a toasted croissant with a Cranberry Cream Cheese Spread and a side of Tressie’s Mac & Cheese. For a more delicate lunch try an Italian Cesar Salad with fresh meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, sun dried tomato’s, creamy César dressing and our house bread. Just want a snack? Treat yourself to a Charcuterie Board or a seasonal crepe with a glass of wine.

When we first opened in 2021 it was an instant hit among locals, as the word spread non-locals started making the trek down US 31 for the delicious hand-crafted, comfort food with a come-on-in-and-sit-a-while vibe. We’re more than just a Peru IN coffee shop, but we’re great at that, too!

Why the name "The Trading House Café"?

Definition of Trading House

pronunciation   /treiding haus/

noun

1: historical Especially in North America: a building in which trade or barter, especially between settlers or traders and indigenous peoples, takes place; compare “trading post”.

When we (Maci & Tressie) step through the doors to Pipe Creek Mercantile, we imagine all of the history around us coming to life. The strip of land we are on has a lot of historical relevance in Miami County. (For more information : https://www.in.gov/library/collections-and-services/indiana/county-history-holdings-guide/miami-county/ )  It is fun to imagine how the antiques in the mercantile were possibly being used at our very location,  grinding wheat, carrying water or swaddling a baby. Tressie likes to believe there really was a log built, lantern lit, pipe smoke smelling, old Trading House on the very ground Pipe Creek Mercantile is on.  We envision this place as a gathering spot for all people, of all walks of life, trading stories of their lives and fellowshipping together.
